Listening to God…

Many people say that they hear God when they dream; some say they hear Him speak to them in a clear voice. For me I can’t say I have every heard a voice or dreamed a dream where he spoke to me. For me it happens when I read a book, watch a movie, or hear something on the radio. I guess God uses media to speak to me.

One day while driving in my car there was a devotion that came on and it was like the dj knew exactly what I needed to hear. But it really wasn’t the dj it was God. There is always a message that he wants use to learn, but how we receive it may be different than we expect.

In my global studies class I was shown a video about the five missionaries who were killed by natives in Ecuador. No movie has ever hit as hard as that one. As I looked around the room I can tell people were each responding in their own different ways.
That movie made me think about how I live my life each day. Would I be willing to leave everything I had? All the luxuries of life, to go live in a place that not only was unfamiliar but to be away from my family and help these people who have acted out in hostility for centuries? I like to think I would, but in reality probably not.

A problem that many of us have is the times that we do not listen. We choose to ignore God. Even when we do this, He has many ways of getting his point across, no matter how many times we look the other way. We should be willing to give up everything we have and do exactly what he says. We are commanded to do this but like many other things we do not do this. We should strive not only to hear His voice but also to do exactly what he says and follow through with every detail.
